Speaker Straus Appoints Representative Carter To Agriculture & Energy Committee

June 28, 2011

(AUSTIN, TX) – Speaker Joe Straus has recently announced the appointment of
Representative Stefani Carter (Dallas) to the National Conference of State Legislatures’
Agriculture & Energy Committee

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the Agriculture & Energy Committee
of the NCSL,” said Carter. “I am looking forward to serving with other members from state
legislatures across the country to exchange ideas and continue to improve the Texas Legislature.

The NCSL was originally founded for the purpose of improving the quality of state
legislatures, encouraging policy innovation and communication, and ensuring that each state
legislature is heard by the federal government. Overall, the NCSL aids and serves legislatures
across the country by providing research and other services as a bipartisan organization looking
out for the policymakers of each state

“I had the opportunity to study energy-related legislation, while serving on the Energy
Resources Committee during the 82nd Legislature, and I am eager to share my knowledge with
other states for the benefit of our country. I am also very excited about what we can learn from
others that will benefit Texas.

The Agriculture & Energy Committee has jurisdiction over such issues as energy and
electric utilities legislation, regulation, and policies, energy production, pipeline safety, and
biotechnology. NCSL Committees meet three times a year to discuss ways in which to instruct
Congress and federal agencies regarding state concerns. The Committees also enable the
exchanging of ideas between states on various issues.

Stefani Carter, a member of House Energy Resources Committee, is serving her first term
representing House District 102, which includes parts of Dallas, Richardson, and Garland. She is
a native of the Dallas area and a former prosecutor.
