Carter Joint Authors Legislation Making Murderers Ineligible for Deferred Ajudication
March 17, 2011
(AUSTIN, TX) – Representative Stefani Carter (Dallas) has joined Representative Scott Hochberg in authoring legislation that prohibits deferred adjudication community supervision for murderers.
House Bill 371 would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure by making certain defendants charged with murder ineligible for release with community supervision that, if completed successfully, prevents the conviction from appearing on their record.
“If an individual has committed murder, he or she should not be eligible for deferred adjudication,” said Carter. “The severity of such an offense goes without saying, and a violator’s record should be reflective of the crime.”
Stefani Carter, a former prosecutor, is serving her first term representing House District 102, which includes parts of the cities of Dallas, Richardson and Garland. She is a native of the Dallas area.
